Arguments

Two take-aways from this clip from the interview between Elon Musk and BBC reporter James Clayton.

  1. It does not matter who has your back, you have to be prepared. You have to know what you are talking about. You have to do your research. You have to have facts. And if you don’t, which is fair, because sometimes there’s just too much to know, just avoid the topic you are not prepared about altogether. Drop it.
  2. There’s a point when you are winning an argument where you need to check with the situation and concede something to the part that is losing the argument. If you don’t, you are just going for the kill, and nobody appreciates that.

Stick with it

Stick with something long enough and it will change you.

Stick with something you have chosen, something that is difficult, something that is inspiring, something you would not normally do, something that you had wanted to do for a long time. And it will become a passion, a second nature, an habit.

Stick with something long enough and it will save you.

Kill your idol

Idols are idols only from afar, because when you keep the distance, you only see the silhouette.

And I wonder what would happen if we would direct the respect we reserve for idols to people that are close and that we see fully instead.

Idols are idols and they always disappoint.

That’s no reason to be disappointed at life as a whole and stop doing what you are here to do.

Treadmill

Two things I noticed when running on the treadmill.

First, the first few minutes are a real pain. Legs are heavy, breathing irregular, body tense. Makes me want to give up right away.

Second, when I focus on the screen with pace, distance, and time, running feels a lot more difficult – mentally and physically – than when I focus on the wall 10 meters ahead of me.

The point being.

Getting started is rarely pleasant. And when you eventually get started, focusing too much on what you see right in front of you will make you lose perspective and vision, therefore decreasing your motivation.
