Easy and difficult

Registering for an online class is easy, actually attending is difficult.

Subscribing to a newsletter is easy, actually reading it with regularity is difficult.

Downloading an eBook is easy, actually taking learnings from it is difficult.

Signing up for a free trial is easy, actually implementing the tool in your team’s routine is difficult.

Making an appointment online is easy, actually showing up is difficult.

The point is that we are more and more used to take reactive actions that actually demand a proactive change. In our behaviour, in our schedule, in our focus.

From our point of view, it’s easy to mistake this with busyness and activity. From the content provider’s point of view, it’s easy to mistake this with success.

Us and them need to remember that there is a very limited amount of resources for difficult.

The overall journey

Are you proud of your overall journey, so far?

That is to say, if you look back at some crucial points in your timeline, do you have a narrative to bind them together in a way that makes you proud?

Forget about the latest missteps, the most recent failure, the bad period, the negative feedback, the missed goal. Keep your eyes, instead, on the overall journey.

Are you proud of it?

Streaks

Streaks will eventually end. That’s inevitable.

And when that happens, instead of focusing on the small loss, turn the attention on the big win. It will be much easier to get back on track and go for an even longer streak.

In any given moment

If you are reading a book, do read.

If you are doing some work, do work.

If you are checking emails and social media, do check emails and social media.

If you are chatting with a friend, do chat with a friend.

If you are in a meeting, do be in the meeting.

The point is that you should commit to whatever it is that you are doing at any given moment. Mixing different activities at the same time is a sure way to get nervous, stressed, and eventually achieve nothing.

Relentless

Once you have established what you stand for, your role in the world, the first test is with yourself. It’s a test of determination in which you are opposed to the infinite opportunities of life.

The second test is with your culture. It’s a test of conviction in the face of what came before you, how things have always been.

The third and final test is with others. It’s a test of acceptance of different points of view, and of the fact that such different points of views do not diminish the validity of your own.

Be relentless.
